Days 48-50

Aah I just ended my 50th day here! 33 to go. (I don't like thinking of my experience so finitely and partitioned-ly, but it somehow feels necessary to "make the most" of my experience. But that's a whole 'nother post.)

On Monday, Alex and I went to the "Atom Bomb" part of town: the Atom Bomb Peace Memorial Hall, Peace Plaza, and Peace Park. The weather was beautiful albeit again mind-numbingly hot. We stopped by the one-legged torii before walking to Cocowalk, a mall I had never been to. It's actually the most American-style mall here, I think. Alex had a Sasebo burger and I had another Royal Milk Tea. We wanted to ride on the giant ferris wheel but decided Y500 was too much.

We went back to the apartment and Alex took a nap while I taught class, and then afterwards we went out to Mt. Inasa! We took a ropeway all the way up the mountain which deposited us at the observatory where you can see a beautiful 360-degree view of the Nagasaki peninsula. It's absolutely GORGEOUS. On one side is the islands and the ocean, and the other side is the harbor and basically all of Nagasaki, with all the beautiful city lights. What made it even better is that it was thunderstorming, so I was able to get a pic with lightning!

At night we talked for probably two hours before going to bed, and he left in the early morning. This week is the last week at Seido so we've been spending class time playing games, signing "autographs," and taking pictures. It's sad but fun. We had the last day of the 1st-3rd graders already, now just grades 4-9 to go. :(

We went to Atsuko's house again last night and she cooked for us and had a birthday cake for Carley and Mai (whose birthdays are both in July.) Since I do most of my own cooking, it feels so good to eat real food! I am so grateful for her hospitality.

I'm sick so I'm trying to get better before my performance on Saturday! >_<
