Today we got free admission to the theme park Huis Ten Bosch, a theme park in Sasebo that's supposed to be like a mini version of Holland or Belgium. (The name is Dutch and means "house in the woods.") Our boss Guy just opened up a hot dog restaurant there! (Just another one of his entrepreneurial adventures.) The restaurant is Rock 'n' Roll themed and has all these crazy posters of different bands up on the walls, and 5 or 6 TV screens that all blast recordings of old music performances (the bands of choice during our day there were 70's bands such as Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, and the Bee Gees. I dig it.)
For the grand opening we planned a live performance! The performers were Juju, another one of Guy's former counselors who he flew in just to perform, Minako, one of Guy's family friends and a part-time professional singer, and me! We sang duets/trios that reminded me a lot of high school. I'll Be There by the Jackson 5 (or Mariah Carey,) I Want You Back by the same band, and Under The Boardwalk by I don't know...the Drifters? Minako and I sang a duet of If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys which BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN. Haha I don't know. But it was fun. :) I love singing! Sometimes I get so focused on teaching I forget how much I actually love to perform! I really do. I hope to continue on a small-time (i.e. Karaoke) basis throughout my life.
HTB (Huis Ten Bosch) is CUTE and it was a fun, hot hot hot day. :)
TODAY'S CULTURE TIDBIT
-There are a lot of bugs in Japan. CRAZY BUGS. And many more of them. They're bigger. They're HUGE. They look weird. But they're just as harmless. You just have to get used to them.
